Week 8: Continuing My Posters
May 1, 2024
Hi, everyone! Welcome to my Week 8 blog post! This week’s post isn’t too long; it’s just an update on my informational posters for each of my age groups: 12-18, 19-24, 25-39, 40-60, and 60+.
I’ve been using my research on the ways to effectively appeal to each audience to design my posters, and I have targeted each audience by factoring in the type of tobacco products they use and the causes of mental health disorders in their lives. I am attempting to counter false narratives spread by the tobacco industry while providing information about the actual mental health impacts of tobacco products. My posters are spreading awareness about tactics the industry uses to appeal to people and encouraging people to not fall for these tactics.
In my current poster for ages 12-18, included in this post, I decided to talk about how just trying a tobacco product can lead to an addiction, so they shouldn’t let peer pressure convince them to make a life-altering mistake. Additionally, I wanted to give the audience an understanding of how big of an issue tobacco product usage is. They may not be aware of how many teens use tobacco products or how many people die from smoking, which is why I decided to give them background on the topic. I also provided some information about vapes and flavored tobacco products, which are especially popular among teens, to tell the audience they are not as safe as the tobacco industry may make them seem.
I love that I’m able to take all my research from the past few weeks and put it together to create an end product that can inform people. I’m also excited for next week, when I will end my survey and begin analyzing my responses. Thanks for reading!
