Week 7 - Getting Back on Track
April 25, 2024
This week, I continued writing my second episode with plans to finish at the end of the week. I continued to face difficulties in tone and pacing, and started to struggle with motivation in continuing with the story and characters. I began introducing a new antagonist, a serial killer that the protagonists assume is a dangerous demon, and tried to make him a terrifying villain while also maintaining an element of mystery.
Struggling with motivation halfway through is a common occurrence both for me and for many other writers. When anticipating the writing of a story, I focus on my favorite moments I am looking forward to writing and forget about intermediate steps between that take a lot of effort to complete. Sometimes I discover new favorite moments in the midst of writing that I did not plan out from the start, but maintaining discipline is nonetheless necessary for me to get through parts that are difficult or unenjoyable to write. However, because of the tight planning of the senior project, delays in writing that are usual for me to experience when writing on my own cause me to fall behind schedule.
Because of this, I will be modifying my previous plans and no longer trying to voice act out the scenes because of the time required to record and edit, in addition to needing to find participants to help me. However, I will continue to finish all three episodes as planned, and try to get words down without being too perfectionistic about them.
