Blue Eggs | Week 9
April 5, 2023
Hello birders!
This week was a bit of a rough one! The rain has unfortunately made a return, which means we were only able to check about 11 of our boxes before the pouring rain started. We still had a very eventful trip though! This blog is going to be a short one, simply because we didn’t check over ⅔ of the boxes this week. We are going to try and go back tomorrow or Sunday to finish checking the boxes, so I will try to write another update later this week.
Overview
Out of 34 nest boxes, 23 nests are occupied, 12 nests have eggs, and 5 nests have hatchlings. Below, I will insert a screenshot of the data I collected this week.
Bluebird Eggs
We did see bluebird eggs this week! I know nature does its own thing, but I felt like it was my duty to show you guys some blue eggs from this season. When I opened that box, I was full of anticipation and hoping that there would be eggs, and there were! We have three beautiful blue eggs in nestbox 20 and I could not be more relieved. Great way to end this senior project! Here’s a photo:
Interesting Fact
Another small thing I wanted to add was that we found a shed snakeskin in one of our nests. I’ve never seen this before and it was just something cool I thought I would share!
See you guys next week!
