06: Backgrounds. The backgrounds drove me crazy. Crazy?

I want to draw but I’m just worn out from coding. Ughhhhh
I decided to continue this trend of soft cold color within the bedroom, mainly to be aesthetic and match Raven but also to give off a cold comfortable feeling. The wallpaper is shown to resemble bars to resemble her entrapment due to her weak state (our setting is within a dream world of her experiences, so that’s why she’s able to move around in the game). Next to her bed is a mirror which forces her to see herself every time she gets up. The bareness of the room is because she didn’t do much aside from staying in bed. This room was a comfortable nothingness to her.
It is extremely.. empty. Even for an empty room- I’ve currently only drawn the essential sprites we would need for the demo. I’ll continue fleshing out the environment with whatever time I have left!
The moment she leaves her room, she’s met with a much more vibrant hallway. This is to emphasize her parents neglecting her mental wellbeing by taking care of the entire house except her room. Through walking down this hallway, the player interacts with the door to the parents’ bedroom where Raven is too afraid to bother them, and many photos of her parents. Raven will be able to interact with only one photo that shows her.
I initially colored everything to have cold colors, similar to that of the bedroom but decided against that. One, the mild shock favor when exiting the room. Two, her bedroom should stand out since it’ll be important feature of the game.
Again very empty- it’ll look much better next week!
I’m still designing the layout of the main house but it’ll include a wide area that allows Raven to find more journal entries, a door that leads to the stairs and another to the bathroom which both she is too afraid to confront, and interact with more photographs. It’ll continue the design from the hallway.
I don’t know much about house designing so I referenced Omori’s houses layouts for help haha. The forest background will be the longest to fully render out so stay tuned for that! Also I get to FINALLY start drawing my creepy little monsters hehehee

I really liked your designs for the room and hallway and your use of colors in both! I can’t wait to see the rest of the main house once you finish it!
