AP Research Week 8: Limitations
May 21, 2023
Hello everyone! For this weeks blog I’d like to just talk about a few limitations that were found within this research as it is important for future studies to potentially resolve these limitations.
One limitation is that this study is solely based on the participants’ self-report of each question. There was no way to monitor nor examine any of the individuals who answered the survey due to ethical concerns. The results therefore are not entirely accurate and impact the entirety of the study. Another limitation in this study is due to the parameters of the research question that had to be followed, 37 participants had to be omitted from being included in the results. The results of this paper could have been drastically different if these individuals were not omitted, and the hypothesis may have been at least partially proven. The next limitation of this study is that pre-existing research within this topic of inquiry has utilized eye examinations as a method for conducting their studies. Since the researcher conducting this study is not a certified doctor, there was no means of performing eye examinations in addition to sending out a survey as a form of checking for accuracy. Lastly, other than utilizing correlation coefficients and p-values, there are other methods of analyzing the type of data gathered within this study. One such method is multivariate logistic regression which was used in some studies to analyze multiple dependent and independent variables at the same time. Although using this method may have been helpful, correlation coefficients and p-values are considered to be very practical forms of analysis within this particular study.
That is all for this week’s blog. I will be doing some in-depth analysis for each of the parts that correlate with the prevalence of myopia. Until next time!
