Week 2

Hello! This week for my senior project I continued to brainstorm new ideas for instagram reels and focused more on short form content. I researched more about social media trends and found that the type of content people want to see is less commercial short form, authentic content that shows transparency. With guidance from my on-site mentor and the assistant manager of the store, I did three videos this week. One that showed a button down shirt and 4 different ways to style it. This video aimed to encourage people to not only shop sustainably but also get inspiration for how they can also style the clothing they own in many different ways. I also did a video on a mother’s day giveaway they are doing, as well as a spring outfit of the day showing new products at the store.
Outside of my internship I continued to read about trends on social media to boost engagement. As I stated in last week’s blog post, audios play a large role in social media trends but a lot of mainstream music is not available for businesses to use. I tried to find ways to get around that barrier, however, I found that a license would be needed. Additionally, I started creating questions for my survey to gather data on how sustainably people in New York City shop for clothing.
The videos we have posted so far have done pretty well (somewhere between 1000-2000 views) and in the coming weeks I will continue to create content for the store, research more about the effects social media marketing has had on fashion consumption, and create my survey.

Alexa, I have loved watching your videos on the Rue Saint Paul Instagram account, and it is fascinating to hear the research and strategy that is used behind the scenes. I am glad to hear that you are navigating the challenges you are experiencing with music licensing. As a consumer, I agree that music and the use of “trending” audio are important if a brand wants to make its content viral, or at least reach a wide audience. I’m looking forward to following along on this journey and watching your new Instagram Reels in the coming weeks.
