Week 6: Getting Involved In Cleaning Up The Ocean
May 4, 2023
Welcome back to my blog.
This week I wanted to cover ways that people can get involved in cleaning up the oceans. One way is through beach cleanups where you can join a group or go on your own and clear trash from the beach. A beach cleanup can have many positive effects for the ocean as well as the beach. These effects include preventing more plastic from entering the ocean by being pulled in by the waves, less plastic in the air just resting on the beach and also inspire others to get involved. If you are looking for a cleanup to join, visit this link. This website will list dates and times for cleanups that are happening around the world and how you can join them.
Beyond joining these cleanups, you can do your part in everyday life which can make a bigger difference than it may seem. Some methods can be properly recycling plastic and waste, while some could be buying products that don’t release harmful chemicals such as biodegradable products. Another way is to clean up the streets where you live because the longer plastic is in the streets, the higher chances of those pieces ending in the storm drain where it can eventually drain into the ocean or get blown straight into the ocean. Educating others is a key method because it allows other people to become more aware of the situation and hopefully encourage them to play a role in preventing litter and trash in the ocean. By taking the first steps to make changes towards this situation, you can inspire others as a role model.
Though it may not seem like recycling makes a big difference, in reality it makes a huge difference even if only a small percentage of a population participates in these movements.
That is what I focused on this week for my blog, until next week.
