BASIS Independent Manhattan is a vibrant school community in a setting that fuels discovery and connectivity between students, teachers, and ideas. The school is uniquely situated in one of the most culturally rich and stimulating cities in the world, affording students and staff access to endless museums, parks, galleries, and more.

BASIS Independent Manhattan’s Lower School campus (PK–Grade 5) is conveniently located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and the Upper School campus (Grades 6–12) is in the heart of Chelsea.

BASIS Independent Manhattan is an Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) member school.

Upper West Side Building Facts

  • PreK–Grade 5
  • Building type: mixed-use high-rise
  • Facility size: 44,000 sq. ft.
  • 8,000 sq. ft. play deck includes combination of green space and athletic surface
  • 24 classrooms plus seminar spaces
  • Additional amenities: gymnasium, black box theater, sciences labs, art studio, and more

Chelsea Building Facts

  • Serves Grades 6–12
  • Facility Size: 34,000 sq. ft.
  • 16 classrooms, including a range of specialized spaces for Art, Biology, Chemistry, Drama, Music, and Physics. Nearly all instructional spaces have access to natural light.
  • Rooftop recreation and gathering areas with views of the Hudson River
  • Dining space to host on-campus lunch
  • Flexible performance space for musical and drama productions, as well as community gatherings
  • Skylight-capped open central staircase that sets the social core of the school building
  • Configurable seminar, reading and meeting rooms provide shared community spaces for both formal and informal group study and instruction
