- Project Title: Pointe Politics: Russian Ballet's Soft Power and Modern Impact
- BASIS Independent Advisor: Brady
- Internship Location: Silicon Valley Dance Academy
- Onsite Mentor: Kitty Xu, Artistic Director, Silicon Valley Dance Academy
The project hypothesizes that despite political shifts, Russian ballet maintains global dominance because training lineage and state-sponsored talent pipelines outweigh politics in artistic legitimacy. Research is expected to consist of interviews with professional dancers, observations, and internet research. Archival footage demonstrates how iconic ballets such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, with renowned composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, shaped global standards of technique and performance. This study explains how artistic authority in ballet outlasts governments and replicates in training academies internationally. The final product of this project is a documentary containing interview footage and performance clips, using commentary from industry professionals to effectively portray the athleticism, artistry, and cultural significance of Russian ballet.
