Kindergarten is a year filled with big questions, new discoveries, and many firsts. At BASIS Independent, our Kindergarten program is where Fearless Thinking grows.
Learn More
Kindergarten is where children build the confidence to ask questions, the curiosity to explore new ideas, and the social skills to connect with the people around them. Through a hands-on kindergarten curriculum, dedicated teachers, and plenty of time to play and grow, every day is designed to help children discover just how much they’re capable of.
The Kindergarten Curriculum
In Kindergarten, learning becomes more formal, while staying hands-on and full of discovery. Children build literacy and math skills, get plenty of movement and exercise, and connect what they already know about the world to new ideas in civics, science, and history. We also introduce the concepts of engineering, visual and performing arts, and Mandarin.
By the end of the year, kindergartners are working toward Grade 1 skills, providing them with the readiness and confidence they need to succeed.
With two teachers in every classroom and a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio, students receive the attention and encouragement they need to feel comfortable taking chances, trying new things, and finding their own voice.
Literacy, math, science, and social studies become opportunities to explore, ask questions, make connections, and experience the excitement of discovering something new.
Kindergarten should feel like Kindergarten. Two daily recess periods, movement, play, and time with friends give children plenty of opportunities to build social skills, connect, laugh, recharge, and simply be kids.
Subject Expert Teachers introduce students to visual and performing arts, music, Mandarin, engineering, physical education, and more—giving young learners even more ways to discover what sparks their interest.
