Week 5: Bioinformatics
April 10, 2023
Welcome back to another one of my senior project blog posts!
This week, I completed a deep dive into research papers and bioinformatics tools that I could use to complete this research. Although angelfish transcriptome sequencing is a field that has been explored minimally, transcriptome sequencing in general is a very common technique. This means that there is a wealth of information out there related to RNA sequencing. Although this is definitely a good thing, it also means I need to parse through the research very carefully to ensure that I am following the correct pipeline/methodology for my specific situation.
From my research of prior published work , I plan to use a variety of open-source, publically available bioinformatics tools to analyze and draw conclusions from my data. For example, the galaxy bioinformatics platform which hosts a variety of in-built RNA-seq tools will be my go-to stop for analyzing my data. The Gensas platform is also a wonderful tool that allows for streamlined annotation of a genome with transcriptomic data.
Data analysis is just as important as data collection, and I expect that my planned methods will yield novel information about angelfish.
