My final product will, firstly, include a platform that allows users to both translate the text and “transcreate” the images (culturally-sensitive editing) of children’s books. Secondly, my product will include an evaluation of the transcreated books by translators (who may be volunteers or professionals) and readers—children aged 3-5 (and their families) from non-American background(s).
The research conducted will involve full-stack software development to integrate pre-existing translation and transcreation pipelines into the final platform. The project will also include internet research for the literature review and analysis of comparable existing products. Most importantly, the platform evaluation will focus on both survey-based research to consult the feedback of the translators and potentially observational research for qualitative analyses on the readers’ reactions to their books. With my project, I aspire to provide a way for all children to find reflections of their culture in literature.
