To complete this project, I will conduct library research, internet research, and interviews to see the effect of trade wars on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the agriculture industry. My library research will focus on academic journals, policy papers, and economic reports from the World Trade Organization (WTO), National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to see the economic effects of trade wars on agricultural businesses. Furthermore, I will do internet research by tracking trade policy changes from the International Trade Administration (ITA) and Small Business Administration (SBA). My qualitative research will include interviews with agricultural SME owners and managers, including small scale farmers, food processors, and agricultural exporters, to see how trade barriers have affected their production costs, supply chains, and market access.
The final product after my research would be a paper detailing the impact trade wars have on the agriculture industry. It will be a conglomeration of quantitative data on tariffs, crop prices, export trends along with qualitative insights from industry professionals to provide analysis. My goal of this project is to provide a practical recommendation for agricultural businesses to get through trade wars.
